Dehydrated Peaches

Peach aholic coming at you. I love peaches, nectarines, and other similar summer fruit. I love the flavour of them, and I think of them as my summer addiction.

This summer I have already shared with you how to make a slow cooker peach cobbler, air fryer peach cobbler and air fryer grilled peaches.

But what about preserving that AMAZING fruit that you have just purchased?

When you want to continue enjoying your peaches in November, when peach season is well over.

That is when I recommend making dehydrated peaches. You use peaches that you have bought during the summer months and dehydrate them in the air fryer. Then you can keep them in your pantry for months and have it as a healthy alternative to potato chips.

Plus, as well as our free newsletter, we also have a free air fryer mini course. It is ideal for air fryer beginners or those that want to get more confident with their air fryer. The free course runs for 5 days with a new lesson delivered each day to your inbox.

Do I Have To Peel Peaches To Dehydrate?

Yes, you do. Its all about the texture of the dried peaches and when you use non-peeled fresh peaches, it is just not as good.

Though, it is easy to remove the skin from the peach and you will love the result and I promise you, there will be no parboiling peaches!

Can You Dehydrate Canned Fruit?

Yes, you can. Though if you are dehydrating canned peaches, you must expect a much longer dehydrate cook time.

This is because canned peaches carry a lot of water. You can also dehydrate peach halves and not just peach slices.

What I recommend (if using canned peaches) is that you let them sit in a mesh strainer for an hour before dehydrating. This can help reduce the water build up and give you an improved dehydrated cook time.

How To Dry Fruit Without A Dehydrator?

Use an air fryer of course! The air fryer oven has a dehydrator button and will do the same job, that a regular dehydrator will do.

Or if your air fryer doesn’t have a dehydrator setting, you can put your air fryer temperature down to 55c or 130f and you will achieve the same result.

How To Remove Skin From Your Peaches?

Of course, the first step of dehydrating fresh peaches is to remove the skin from your peaches.

And believe me when I say, its easy to do without ending up covered in peach juices.

Two hours before you want to peel your peaches, load your peaches onto a sheet pan and place in the freezer.

This will allow the peaches too firm up and be easier to peel. Then it will be like you are peeling an apple and not something with a lot of juice.

These are the peaches Dominic peeled and don’t they look like apples they way they have peeled?

Then like with an apple cut around the core (or in the peaches case a stone) and then you will be left with a few big wedges for each fresh peach.

Then simply cut into wedges and load onto your air fryer oven shelf:

I bet now, you can imagine cutting peaches without boiling them first and love our best way to cut a peach.

How To Keep Peaches From Turning Brown After Peeling?

The next stage of how to prepare peaches for dehydrating, is to brush the peaches with some lemon juice.

The lemon juice acts as a layer to stop your peaches going brown and ugly during the dehydration process.

You can do this whilst your peaches are sat on the dehydrating trays. And unlike when you make air fryer banana chips, you don’t need to toss the peaches in the lemon juice just give them a light brushing.

Dehydrating Nectarines

If dried nectarines are more your thing and you don’t want to do a dried peaches recipe, then note you can follow this exact same recipe.

Because both dried nectarines and dried peaches are very similar, you can swap one for the other or do a mixture of both.

Imagine doing one tray with dehydrated peaches and another tray of dehydrated nectarines. And then mixing them up and having a game with your kids, to see if they can tell the difference.

I bet they can’t!

Air Fryer OvenI recommend this air fryer oven for dehydrating fruit, and it is fantastic because there are three shelves, and you can do a small batch or a large batch of dried peaches or dried nectarines.

Storage – You need a plan of action of where you plan to keep your dried fruit. You can keep it simple by using them in drinks straight away (yes I do that), use a zip loc bag (I prefer this one) or you can opt for traditional pantry containers (like this one).

Peaches – If you are wondering what the best peaches for dehydrating are, then the answer is simple, as any will do. Of course, if they are over soft, it makes them very difficult for slicing and you can cut yourself. Therefore, I recommend buying peaches that are hard rather than soft. Also, as mentioned above, you can also use fresh nectarines or canned peaches.

That is, it! You probably think that are complicated ingredients and accessories to dehydrate peaches in air fryer, but there isn’t. It is also a fantastic easy recipe for air fryer beginners.

How To Dehydrate Peaches?

  • Prep. Freeze your peaches first for a couple of hours to make them easier to peel. Then peel and slice your peaches into similar size wedge slices.
  • Brush. Load your sliced peaches onto the air fryer shelf (or shelves) and brush with lemon juice.
  • Air Fry. Then air fry for 3.5 hours on 55c/130f.
  • Store. Remove from the air fryer and allow to cool before placing into your preferred storage container.

How Long Does It Take To Dehydrate Peaches?

The ideal peach dehydrator time is 3.5 hours. But you might find that your dried peach is overly juicy and needs a little longer. If this is the case put it on for another 90 minutes, then check on them.

Also, if you are using canned peaches for dehydrating, you will need to double the time for those.

How Long Do Dried Peaches Last?

This depends on how you choose to store your dried peaches. For example, if you stored your peach slices in an airtight container, in a dark pantry, then they will last at least a year.

However, if you stored your dried peach chips in a zip loc bag in a warmer pantry, then the shelf life is more likely to be 2-3 months.

What Can You Dehydrate?

There are lots of food you can dehydrate and it’s not just about peach slices. In fact, this recipe is number #12 in a summer theme we are running of fruit to dehydrate in the air fryer. The last fruit we featured was dehydrated mangoes, the week before it was dehydrated lemons, and we can’t wait to carry on the theme.

As well as these you can also dehydrate most fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. There is also the option to dehydrate other foods such as marshmallows, potatoes, and beef jerky. Though, those are the dehydrated foods I think of first as there is so much choice.

I recommend that if you are a beginner to dehydrated foods that you start with dehydrated fruit recipes from the berry family.
