I think she is a decent prof but she does go on tangents and can be unclear occasionally and strict. I thought her tests (6) were easy as most of the material were from the iClickers or lectures. But some questions required specific wordings for answers. Her final was pretty hard due, mostly due to using historical questions from the textbook

Iclickers are a great way of preparing for the tests, but her grading rubrics are brutal. Everything has to be written and interpreted her way and I remember she would be quite rude when calling people out in class. Beware, because the final will have questions that appear on one slide and never come up again. GET CHOWDHURY.

Ridiculous grading criteria. Ridiculous. The mark scheme for quizzes/ tests and even the final is completely different from what is taught in class/ what can be found in the textbook. Impossible to study for

Good prof, taught the course well and was very nice during lectures.Tests are decently hard but if you study they are fairly easy grades. however her final exam was atrocious

She cares about doing everything to make your studies easier. I love how she live streams all lectures, splits midterms into small tests, and has a lot of easy grades. She structured the course so well that every week is only 1 topic so you can always understand where you're going. The macroeconomic model built is extremely practical. Great prof!

Her class is great if you don't take it too seriously. Her humour is fun and she brings real-life examples to the classroom with funny anecdotes. She can seem rude to students, but you won't be targeted as long as you don't talk in her lectures. The biweekly tests are a bit stressful but as long as you review the clicker Q's you'll do just fine.

Worst lecturer I have had yet. Simply reads off her google lecture slides and does not allow for any practice or explanation of how to use the given formulas. It is basically a teach yourself class using the textbook. Has tests every second week which stress everyone out and make the workload even larger.

I feel like she loves white boys more than other races of ppl. She doesn't seem to welcome all perspectives, n would be rude if you didn't have the same perspective as her. Her course has valuable knowledge to learn, but just her teaching style and how she communicates with ppl are not appreciated. her grading is weird and differs to ppl.

I took 335 and 351 with Marina. She can be a bit standoffish, but I found both her classes incredibly valuable from a learning standpoint and loved the books she picked for the final project. The weekly tests are easy once you get a hang of the format and what she's looking for. The annotated bibliography is LONG. Overall would recommend.

I had Marina for ECON102 and hated her, but this class changed my mind. She's witty, chill, offers a fairly light workload, and doesn't take much BS (eg. still writing when time's up or super dumb questions). After learning about her background, she inspired me so much. This class wasn't as unbearable as I thought it'd be, super easy A!

She is an entertaining and caring professor, but a tough marker. She wants specific answers/terms from the book and if you missed a few, you'll get close to 0. But a very organized prof with good tech knowledge (i.e. the use of iPad) helps with your learning a lot. Make sure to attend her lectures so you don't miss hints to the exams.

She's rude and she makes people have no interest in listening at all. We don't like her. Her quiz has almost nothing to do with the lecture.

This is one of my fav courses during my exchange in UBC. Prof Adshade cares about her students and is always accessible. She knows her field very well and always has a way to light up the class with a joke or a story. Two weekly quizzes, not hard, but need some commitment. I would recommend it to anyone who wanna learn more about economic history.

Great prof and lecturer. Weekly tests (1-2 Qs) are based on lecture slides and are easy. All you need to do is attend the lectures and read over the notes. Super accessible outside of class - ie: uses online booking for office hours, quick replies to emails, uses whatsapp for quick Qs. Take her if you can! Easiest A+
